LOC- CLIM-ACT: Local acting on climate change impacts

This project is implemented in the framework of Hungary-Slovakia-Romania-Ukraine ENPI CBC Programme 2007-2013, Priority 2: Enhance environmental quality, Measure 2.2: Emergency Preparedness

The overall objective of the LOC-CLIM-ACT project is to increase preparedness for local acting on emergencies resulting from the climate change impacts at the local level

Locations of the Project are: Slovakia: Presov and Kosice self-governing regions, Ukraine: Zakarpattya region, Hungary:  Borsod-Abauj-Zemplen and Szabolcs-Szatmar-Bereg Counties

Specific objectives

  1. Enhance awareness and knowledge to act in prevention, mitigation and adaptation to the climate change impacts on the local level 
  2. Establish mechanisms for stimulation and support of local actions on climate change impacts´ emergencies

Target groups:

  • Representatives (both executive and elected) of regional and local public administration authorities from the target regions (Presov and Kosice self-governing regions, SK; Transcarpathian region, UA; Borsod-Abauj-Zemplen and Szabolcs-Szatmar-Bereg counties; HU)
  • Representatives of media, non-governmental organizations, secondary schools from the target regions
  • Broad public in the target regions

Estimated results 

  • Raised awareness of public in the target territory to be willing to accept and actively support preparation and implementation of measures inevitable for mitigation and adaptation of climate change impacts (CCI);
  • Built capacities of selected group of elected and executive representatives of the target territory public administration concerning incorporation of the climate change issues into the decision-making process; 
  • Developed the training programme for local development actors and created group of trainers in each country to be able to apply it after the project life; 
  • Proposed set of possible and region-specific local responses to CCI including three local pilot strategies how to address CCIs;
  • Prepared and got started formalized international Initiative targeting  public authorities to motivate them taking the lead in climate change adaptation measures on the local level;
  • Created conditions for establishment of the country/regional focal points (climate change centers network) for provision advisory and consultancy services in the field of prevention, mitigation and adaptation for climate change impacts on the local level;
  • Developed web site as a Knowledge Sharing Centre for local public authorities, which can be used by other cities and regions in Ukraine, Hungary and Slovakia for the purpose of prevention, mitigation and adaptation to climate change impacts emergencies

Round table meeting on SUSTAINABLE URBAN MOBILITY PLANNING IN UKRAINIAN CITIES: PARTNERSHIP OF PUBLIC AUTHORITIES AND CIVIL SOCIETY will take place on November 11-12 in Vinnytsya city.
