Sector of solid biofuels is rapidly developing in Ukraine in the last 5-6 years and has a lot of potential.
Wood is the main sources of biomass for biofuel production - wooden pellets, briquettes, charcoal. Ukraine is an important supplier of biofuel to the European Union where demand for it is expected to increase according to their set strategies to increase renewable energies in their energy balances. However, in order to realize this potential, Ukrainian suppliers should confirm the conformity of some biofuel products to certain quality requirements. In Europe, there is no uniform standard for briquettes / pellets, they can differ from country to country, and there is no such standard in Ukraine. Similarly, there are various voluntary biofuel certification schemes on the market. What is the difference between them and how Ukrainian suppliers can get advantage of the DINplus certification scheme in particular, was discussed at the Training Workshop in Lviv on November 2, 2017.
