Sustainable Materials & Key Technologies: Discover Modules 6 and 7 of CirCLER

As the furniture industry moves towards circularity, the Circular Economy Transition Manager (CETM) programme from CirCLER equips professionals with the skills to lead this transition. The programme covers key dimensions of the circular economy, from regulation and design to materials and digitalisation. This news focuses on Modules 6 and 7, which connect sustainable material choices with advanced technologies to enable truly circular furniture solutions.

Module 6 (New and Sustainable Materials) explores how material selection underpins circular product strategies. It covers bio-based adhesives and coatings, sustainable textiles and fillings, and innovative surfaces made from post-consumer and post-industrial waste, including 100 % recycled plastic panels. The module highlights how these materials can reduce environmental impact while preserving quality and durability and examines the reuse of discarded furniture as raw material, stressing traceability and responsible wood management across the supply chain.

Module 7 (Key Enabling Technologies) focuses on the technologies supporting circular furniture design and production. It introduces tools such as augmented reality, 3D printing and scanning, tracking systems and collaborative digital platforms as practical enablers of new business models. The module shows how these technologies enhance design visualisation and customisation, support eco-design through additive manufacturing, and extend product lifecycles by keeping materials in use.

These two modules demonstrate how sustainable materials and modern technologies work hand in hand. Through the CETM programme, CirCLER supports manufacturers, designers and sustainability professionals in embedding circular thinking into everyday practice.
