If you follow our favorite topics, you know that sustainable urban mobility is definitely among them.
So, we are happy to welcome the project "SMOOTH: Sustainable modes of transportation to school" project supported by the Swedish Institute.
Duration of the project: 01.03.2024 - 31.03.2025.
SMOOTH partners:
The Regional Energy Agency of Southern Sweden (Energikontor Syd AB) is the lead partner;
Agency for Sustainable Development of the Carpathian Region "FORZA";
Polish Association of Active Mobility (PUMA);
Uzhhorod City Council, which will be represented by the Department of International Cooperation and Innovation.
The main goal is to improve municipal governance in organizing sustainable mobility and children's safety on the way to school.
Last summer, a Road Safety Survey was conducted near Uzhhorod's school facilities. The results showed that a significant number of respondents believe that the road to school in our city is not safe enough for children to walk to school on their own.
Therefore, as part of the project, we plan to
- develop a School Mobility Plan and form a school mobility committee for one of the schools in Uzhhorod in cooperation with students, teachers, parents and school management
- to organize several excursions to the utility company for schoolchildren
- to organize a bicycle picnic and a competition between schools for the most sustainable way to get to school
- study the experience of organizing sustainable mobility in schools in Poland and Sweden
- hold online meetings for representatives of local governments to learn about the best practices of organizing mobility in schools in Poland, Sweden and other countries
- to inform the public and improve understanding of sustainable urban mobility among the residents of our city
We believe that we and our partners will be able to achieve positive results and continue to consolidate the principles of sustainable urban mobility in Uzhhorod.
This project is funded by the Swedish Institute.
